Press Release - New sports pavilion is well-deserved

Local people in Welland are getting ready to celebrate the opening of their new pavilion, changing rooms and renovated pitch. The official opening of The Welland Pavilion will take place at 1.30pm on Saturday August 21st at Welland Pavilion, Marlbank Road, Welland, Nr Malvern, Worcestershire, WR13 6NE.

The new pavilion will provide much needed facilities for all age groups at Welland Juniors Football Club and will allow it to significantly increase the amount of junior football delivered locally. The club plans to extend activities at Spitalfield to include more training opportunities, plus Saturday and Sunday league games for its Under-15s to Under-17s boys and girls teams. Longer term the club is hoping to form a senior team.

Little Malvern & Welland Parish Council were awarded £99,393 after successfully applying to the Football Foundation. The Foundation is funded by the Premier League, The FA and Government via Sport England and has supported 8,000 community sports projects worth over £925m since it was launched in July 2000.

Welland Junior FC was previously awarded several free vouchers towards kit and equipment through the Football Foundation’s Junior Kit Scheme. It also received a £6,762 Grow the Game grant towards club development.

An additional grant of £100,000 has come from The FA, as part of their capital allocation within the Whole Sport Plan agreed with Sport England. This specific aspect of funding has been awarded to support the sustainability of community clubs and create more opportunities to participate in sport within a high quality environment.

Peter Manion, Club Chairman at Welland Juniors, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming the Football Foundation’s President, the Rt Hon Lord Pendry of Stalybridge, to Welland so we can thank the Foundation personally on behalf of the whole club. Having a home for Welland Juniors and such an excellent community facility would not have been possible without the Foundation’s commitment and support.”

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation said: “We are delighted that Welland Juniors and the local community will have access to these fantastic new facilities and commend the club and the Worcestershire County FA for their hard work in making this happen.”
